Stepping
Up for Climate Change
The New England Aquarium is working to address the impact of climate
change on marine ecosystems. As part of that effort, we are pleased
to be supporting the
One
Earth, One Climate Rally
on
Saturday, April 14, 2007
This
event, which will be held at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common
from 2 to 4 p.m., will bring together people of all ages to demonstrate
our hope for the future and voice our support for a new energy path.
Sponsored by the Union of Concerned Scientists, Boston Climate Action
Network and the Urban Ecology Institute, the rally will feature remarks
by political leaders, climate change experts and youth leaders, as well
as music by acclaimed singer/songwriter Chad Hollister. Young people
from dozens of schools will work in the weeks preceding the rally to
produce banners, posters and other artwork to be displayed on Boston
Common. As part of the rally, students will perform an original song
composed for the occasion, which will be recorded for release on iTunes.
The One Earth, One Climate Rally
is one of hundreds of rallies that will be held across the country on
April 14, as part of the national Step It Up 2007 campaign. The goal
of these events is to galvanize the American public around the issue
of climate change and ask Congress to pass legislation reducing greenhouse
gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050.
